the hours passed without our notice
your nose buried in a book
my head on your shoulder, reading snippets here and there
comfortable in silence
eyes pointed towards that rocking horse passing high
chasing after cotton candy and a plane's vapor trail
soft grass mingling with my hair
a cool breeze on my cheek
a plate of mashed potatoes and corn
like mom used to make
the cool night air flowing through the windows
talking the night away
wandering the city aimlessly
i don't know that either of us knew what we wanted then
though the potential brought me joy
