So sophisticated, so cool

Ugh. I am so tired. Totally worth it though. Last night's show was the best show I've ever been to. First up was the emcee (minus her DJ for the night) from the duo Macromantics. She wasn't bad, but she wasn't spectacular either. Good rhymes, good flow, but it was hard to understand what she said through her Australian accent. What I could understand wasn't terribly coherent, relying more on the listener to try to make something out of the words she was slamming together rather than having a coherent message to share. Of course, since I couldn't make out a good chunk of what she said, I might have missed something. She had the power of speak, it just didn't seem like she had anything to talk about.

Next up were the two vocalists for Grand Buffet. These guys were hilarious. I wish their album was nearly as good as their live show, but that's how all good bands ought to be. They did this "cover" of I Alone from Live. I say "cover" because all the guy did was sing over the actual track. I laughed and laughed.

They were followed up by Mac Lethal, a local emcee. He was good, even though he started off kinda lame. Nothing really noteworthy to mention though.

Sage Francis and Joey Beats. What can I say, they sucked. HARD. Just kidding. I don't know how the show would've been if Sage's backup band would've showed, but they killed with just a CD player. There were hundreds of awesome moments during the show. Notably: Sage sticking a George W. Bush doll head first into his pants, remixing his song Broken Wings with the Mister Mister song Broken Wings, and being creepily stared at by Sage because Chrissy and I were standing next to the speakers in front of the stage. I thought the Atmosphere/Rhymesayers show was awesome, but damn. There's not much more that I can say. If you have an appreciation for Sage/Non-Prophets already, then you know how brilliant Sage is. If you don't, then you need to talk to me so I can get you hooked because no amount of ranting on my part will convince you better than just listening to the man speak.

Merch booths are the devil because I can't walk away from them without spending more money than I should. Last night I walked away with the following:

    Sage Francis discs:

  • Sick Of Waiting Tables

  • Still Sick

  • The Known Unsoldier: Sick Of Waging War

  • Sickly Business

  • Dead Poet Live Album

  • Grand Buffet's Pittsburgh Hearts
The Joey Beats Conspiracy's Reverse Discourse

Damn you merch booth. It's a good thing I had been saving up ahead of time, knowing that money would flow like cheap beer at a party full of underage kids.
