diplomacy is quickly lost in matters of love and war

All right chillins', let me tell you the tale of my weekend thus far. Friday night around 5, Heather and I departed for McPherson. The drive down was fairly uneventful, with the two of us just quietly listening to whatever cd I had in at the time, the wind blowing through our hair. Peaceful and relaxing, just like a good drive out to be. A note of amusement: Windburn (I don't know if that's the real term for it, but I'm talking about when you've had a part of your body exposed to high winds for a long amount of time) takes about 30 minutes to finally dissipate enough that your body no longer feels wind all the time (even when there is none). However, it can take up to 5 hours for it to stop completely. Crazy feeling. Anyway, we got to her house down there to discover that it was a pit. Her ex is subletting from her room mate for the summer and apparently has no concept of cleanliness. Very sad. We went and got some mexican food, hung out at her house for a bit, then went down to the local dive to listen to some garage bands. They were all pretty good, for the most part. The last band played a really good cover of Say It Ain't So as well as Undone. Entertaining, to say the least. Then yesterday we went to her friend's wedding reception for several hours. At first I felt kind of out of place because I only knew a few of the people there, but then I figured out where the g33k niche was and plugged myself into it. After leaving there, we began the haul back home. Unlike the drive down, the drive back was almost entirely conversation. It was comforting because her and I haven't had lengthy conversations in a long time. Most of our talk was over how the american public education system is designed to fail and about how the adoption system is beginning to decline, making it a less feasible alternative to mothers who don't want their children. Highly interesting. It was nice to discover that one of those sides to her that I'd thought had disappeared were still very much there. I'm going to miss her when she goes back to school in 3 weeks.

Anywhoo, I'm off to hang out with Jamie for the evening. Have fun with your evening kids.
