Unless you live in a hole (well, that is unless you live in a hole that wasn't formerly a house), then you know about the legion of tornados that tried to eat the midwest yesterday. I'm fine, my family is fine, and I think everyone I know is fine. A tornado whipped through the forest in front of my house, coming within 30 feet of our house. Luckily, we only suffered EXTREMELY minor damage. You can see the path that it cut through the woods. Others in our neighborhood were not as lucky, but as far as we know, no one was hurt. The closest thing to an injury in our immediate 3 block radius: this angry old hag that most of us dislike was trapped in her tub for 2 hours. Apparently she ignored the sirens and continued taking a bath when the tornado ate her house. Bits and pieces of HOUSE fell into the middle of her bathroom, making it impossible to get out of the tub. The fire department managed to get to her after 2 hours of sitting in the tub. A friend of my brother had his roof tossed across the road. It's insane.

Where was I during this whole thing? Well, let's start with the story of my mom and brother and the tornado. My brother wakes my mom up as soon as he hears the tornado sirens, telling her she should come down to the basement. She shrugged it off and was going to just go back to sleep because we'd never had a tornado back there. Then she looked outside. Trees aren't supposed to sway like a metronome gone mad, are they? Apparently they were. So she flew out of bed and ran to the opposite side of the house to get downstairs. As she got to the stairs, she saw the tornado about 30 feet away from our house, cutting through the woods. At the same time as this was going on, I was about 20 miles south-southeast of there at the theater, missing all of the fun and enjoying the new X-Men movie. When we left, we had no clue that anything had happened in the outside world. I missed prime tornado footage from the comfort of my own home for a movie. Albeit, a good movie, but still, I could've gotten some sexy tornado pictures. C'est la vie. I've got some good "after" photos to play with and then I'll figure out some place to stash them (what's the ETA on picpix space for perm/paid accounts? Anyone?).
