[Your mom ain't listening to |josh martinez - uphill climb]

Hmm, it would appear I missed the 2 year anniversary of my journal on the 5th. C'est la vie. I've been here longer than that anyway, though only by a couple months.

I've spent way too much time drooling over things at ThinkGeek today. I'd originally gone there to "stalk" the page for the blanket I linked yesterday in hopes of catching it in stock. I finally managed to catch that blanket in stock that I linked to yesterday. =D Then I got bored and started wandering the site. Too many g33ky things, all of them calling my name (read as: begging for me to use my credit card). From there, I went and updated my amazon wishlist a bit (a few people have asked me what I want for christmas, so I figure I'll just send them to the wishlist for ideas). Now if I get any complaints about how hard it is to shop for me, people will summarily be shot.

As much as I think Stereolab's music was pretty good, I don't know why the death of one of their members made the front page of CNN.com today. Most people don't remember them anymore...

That's funny, I seem to recall hearing on NPR two days ago that Bush was asking for people to calm down about Trent Lott's shady segregationist comments. Now he's jumping on the bandwagon with the angry mob? What, was he worried we'd figure out that there are a number of republicans who'd have prefered we'd have remained segregated? Too late, those of us with brains are pretty sure a number of you would be happier if the civil rights movement never happened. Of course we can't pick out which of you happen to feel this way, but it's almost a given that a small number of politicians think that and if you're a segregationist, you're more than likely a republican. I have a feeling this is an attempt to keep people from thinking that he condones that sort of behavior rather than an actual outcry against Lott.

As much as I think it's a good thing for parents to be involved in their child's education, when you're calling their college professor to bitch about the curriculum, maybe you're going a bit too far. Write a letter to the dean of that department, maybe talk with whoever handles public relations, but leave the professors alone unless the situation is truly out of hand. By time your kids get to college, they need to be taking their own responsibility in these matters, not having their parents fight their battles for them. Blah.
