So it turns out that we've had a pretty good idea that Saddam was lying about having WMDs since 2004. Of course it'd be irresponsible of our leaders to acknowledge that at the time, or to lend any credence to the ravings of a mad man. Better to just hand him over so he could be killed by zealots in his homeland. The fact that I find information gathered through the interrogation of Saddam Hussein more credible than information given by Dick Cheney on Meet The Press is either a telling statement about me or the quality of our former leadership. You have your own opinions, I'm sure.
Stealing an amputee's wheelchair is neither classy, nor funny, not even if you did it so you could see him go around in circles in a regular wheelchair. For shame.
We inch ever closer to a new album from Steve Burns and this makes me happy.
I didn't want to comment on his passing directly, but I find it interesting that Michael Jackson nearly took the internet with him when he died yesterday. Personally, I didn't find out until I got a text message about 45 seconds before my date showed up last night. |

| | Willie Nelson - Crazy | ] | Life rarely goes according to plan. The longer the timeline, the more you'll find yourself deviating from the plan. Still, it'd be nice if it occasionally worked out the way you wanted it to. Ah well. My mind has been consumed with thoughts of time, coincidence, opportunity (both lost to time and space and opportunity on the horizon), and where I'm heading in life. |

Dear Lazyweb -
Is there a reason I shouldn't buy a $5 HDMI cable online instead of the $40 - $175 HDMI cables that I see at every store I go to? I understand that there are varying qualities of HDMI cables and that I want to make sure I get a 1.3a/b/c to ensure that I get quality 1080p from my PS3, but if the $5 cable says it's 1.3a/b/c compliant, then why would I pay for the $175 cable? I've ordered a couple el cheapos from Amazon to get me by once the new TV arrives, but if someone can give me a compelling reason to buy the traditional store brand cables, I'm all ears (or eyes, as the case may be).
Sincerely, A/V Challenged |

| | David Byrne And Brian Eno - Home | ] | How on earth did I go two weeks in the city without checking out Oh My Rockness for something to do? It's a good thing I did today because I'd have kicked myself if I found out later that I missed out on seeing David Byrne for free in Brooklyn tonight. Sure, it's at a park. Sure, it'll be outside and crowded. But David Byrne! Followed up by The Decemberists on Wednesday night and Nouvelle Vague next week. Oh New York, you're going to bleed my pockets of money!
In other news, this is my third week as a New Yorker. It's been pretty great so far. Everything I need to sustain myself is within easy walking distance. The apartment hasn't spontaneously combusted. The super for our building seems to think we're the greatest of friends, which makes me think he's going to rob me. So far, I'm loving it here. |

d00d. The entire run of the new BSG on Blu-Ray AND a Cylon? *cough* Not that I'm swayed by the Cylon. Seriously, this may be the ONLY TV show that I'd really care about owning on Blue-Ray. |

| | The background noise of the city... | ] | In NYC. For perms, y0. Random notes from my drive:
- Seriously New Jersey? I have to wait 25 minutes at the gas station so that some schlemiel can put gas in my car because I'm not cool enough to gas up my own car? Really? REALLY?
- Pulling up to and crossing the George Washington Bridge into NYC, I heard Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Rising" followed by Van Halen's "Running With The Devil" on the NYC classic rock station. Should I consider that a good or bad omen?
- The older woman (late 40's, at least, and not in that hot Jane Seymour kind of way) at the hotel in Butte Vernon, PA that checked me in last night was also checking me OUT. It was kinda gross. She let me know a half dozen times that if I needed anything (it was 12:30 am eastern when I checked in) that I just needed to call down to the desk and she'd bring it right up to me room for me, that she'd be down there all night being bored. GROSS.
- While passing through Ohio yesterday, I saw a van being driven by a super white trash woman with at least 5 kids bouncing around in it with this large, seemingly homemade bumper sticker that said "Don't Blame Me, I Voted For PALIN!" Um, wha? It's only been 115 days or so (I'm too lazy to check and find out exactly how many). What's happened in that time that you have to shift the blame off on everyone else? You know, aside from the fact that he's a darker, more natural shade of color than John Boehner.
- White Castle in St Louis yesterday for lunch. So fantastic. Skyline for dinner in BFE, Ohio. Mmm.
- I drove to the east coast a thousand years ago (2002?) using a combination of my own scrawled notes/directions and the horrific directions that Mapquest provided. It was a little bit of a challenge, but it worked out alright for me. This time I pretty much relied on my brother-in-law's GPS that he loaned me. INFINITELY easier. As a society, we are far too spoiled by technology.
- Blah blah blah. |

| | Interpol - No I In Threesome | ] | The single carload of stuff. I've wondered for years if I'd be able to parse myself down to just one carload of things, though I always imagined having a larger car if I ever had to try. Still, I don't have nearly as much stuff going into storage as I'd have thought I would a month ago. And of the stuff going to storage, I'll probably only be concerned about my cardboard guys, my yearbooks, and my comic book collection. You know, my valuables. :P
In about 60 hours or so, I'll be a New Yorker. It feels a little weird to say that. Years ago, I wasn't terribly interested in even visiting New York, much less living there. Bizarro. |
